Canadian-invented bioactive paper wards away E-coli, sARS and salmonella Next time there exists a global pandemic, contaminated water caused by flooding, or questionable-looking meat in a supermarket, we might be reaching for a piece of paper. It will not be just any kind of paper but a Canadian-invented bioactive paper which has the substances to detect and defend against life-threatening bacteria and viruses like E-coli, salmonella and SARS, to name a few . Experts from 10 universities across Canada, nine industry partners, and federal government and provincial government organizations have formed a study consortium named the SENTINEL Bioactive Paper Network to develop low-cost and easy-to-use paper-based products with biologically active chemical substances that can protect the general public against increasing incidents of food-, water – and air-borne illnesses.
